Masking Workshops for Actors

Masking I: Uncovering the many parts of us behind a full neutral silent mask, giving oneself permission to play freely. The mask helps to breathe deeply and see from a new angle. What might happen on the face now can shift into the body.

Breathing and stretching to ready the body to come to the mask. Discovering how to breathe, see and move in a full neutral mask in slow motion acompanied by drumming. Eventual mirroring with partners, improvising animal and human behavior to physicalize a simple story exchange in silence.

Masking II: Introducing sound and language into a half neutral mask with breathing, seeing and moving in sounded slow motion accompanied by drumming. Eventual mirroring with sound and movement and improvising animal and human behavior. to physicalize a simple story exchange.

Masking III: Character Masks at play with movement, sound and text.

Dress: Loose neutral colored clothing and flat indoor shoes.

Guided by Gerard Moses and JT Lee
